The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The anticipation around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
