The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Displeasure Regarding Sizing Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category than originally posted due to the recalibration.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
It has advised users to examine their items and update the measurements by hand when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was previously a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, located in England, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
